Proposal[edit]
Proposal: EGAL06:Observations of galaxy clusters: Coma Cluster
PI: Mireia Nievas Rosillo (mnievas@iac.es)
Source information[edit]
Source: ComaCluster-Center
RA (J2000): 194.7752 deg
Dec (J2000): 27.6562 deg
Source: ComaCluster-OFF1
RA (J2000): 200.4221 deg

Source: ComaCluster-OFF2
RA (J2000): 189.1283 deg
Dec (J2000): 27.6562 deg
Observational settings/limits[edit]
ComaCluster-Center, ComaCluster-OFF1, ComaCluster-OFF2 Min Zenith [deg] = 0
Max Zenith [deg] = 50
Night Sky Background = Both
Wobbles = ON
Observational strategy[edit]
The strategy, each observing night (80 consecutive minutes [^1]), is as follow:
- OFF-2 region for 20 minutes (1 run), during which the relative movement of the sky is 5 deg (AZ1, ZD1 → AZ2, ZD2)
- ON region for 20+20 minutes (2 runs), during which the relative sky movement is 10 deg (AZ1, ZD1 → AZ2, ZD2 → AZ3, ZD3).
- OFF-1 region for 20 minutes (1 run, AZ2, ZD2 → AZ3, ZD3).
The OFF at lower RA should come first (OFF-2).
[^1] take the data ideally with no interruptions and with similar NSB if possible, so that the AZ, ZD conditions in the OFF and ON match as intended. If for some reason there is some hardware problem and the 80 minutes need to get significantly reduced, alternative schedules for 60 minute, 40 minute & 30 minutes are listed below:
- Option A (60 minute): Do OFF-2, ON, ON, OFF-1 as usual, but with 15' wobbles. This will slightly alter the ZD, AZ conditions, but not by too much.
- Option B (40 minutes): 1 run in OFF-2 + 1 run on ON
- Option C (40 minutes): 1 run in ON + 1 run in OFF-1.
- Option D (30 minute or 20 minutes): do either option B or C, but with 15' runs (or 10 minute runs if the slot is 20 minutes)
If less than 20 minute are available, skip to the next source or look for an alternative source.
Instructions for shifters[edit]
Observations in ON mode. If at some point RTA works with ON-OFF observations, please report any hotspot in the skymaps.
Please not that if you schedule the observations using the auto-operator in TCU, you need to schedule two consecutive ON runs as separate blocks. E.g. scheduling two 20min ON runs as a 40min block with 20min wobbling time will not close and restart the run. The wobbling time will not function as a run time, but will be ignored and the 40min will be taken as a single run.
