Outline of the project[edit]

  • Purpose: Evaluation and understanding of effect of magnetic field on the PMTs of CTA LST-1
  • Onsite test
- Effect of geomagnetic field was examined by calibrating the camera at different pointing directions.
- 0.5% change in PMT gain depending on x-component of geomagnetic field was seen
- No problem in terms of the telescope performance
  • Investigation at lab
- In order to confirm that the result of the onsite test can be explained by the geomagnetic field, measurement is performed at lab.
- Multi p.e. signal shows small dependence even with weak magnetic field close to geomagnetic field.
- Single p.e. signal indicates positive correlation between gain and magnetic field, which is qualitatively consistent with the LST-1 result.
- Results obtained with the F-factor method indicates the dependence seen in the onsite test is indeed likely to be due to effects of the geomagnetic field.
